Blue Wind Engineering

In the Wando-Guemil Offshore Wind Farm project, Blue Wind Engineering faced challenges in optimizing the inter-array cable layout and determining the best position for the Offshore Substation Platform.

Our solution involved revising the turbine layout, running optimizations for cable layouts, and finding suitable cable types. This approach de-risked key decisions, provided cost insights, maximized the wind farm’s lifetime value, and allowed Blue Wind Engineering to access specialized knowledge without overhead license costs.

Northern Gas Networks HyCoRe programme

In collaboration with Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, Kinewell Energy are delivering a Hydrogen Cost Reduction (HyCoRe) programme on behalf of Northern Gas Networks funded by Ofgem’s strategic investment fund (SIF). Using KDOTS alongside KLOC, the project has improved understanding around integration between offshore wind and electrolysis to create green hydrogen. In particular, the project focused on the optimal placement of infrastructure, such as electrolysers and energy storage.

Equinor Beacon Wind

Kinewell provided cable optimization consultancy for Equinor’s Beacon Wind project, a major offshore wind farm off the US East Coast with a planned capacity of over 2.5 GW. Using our KLOC software, we optimized the inter-array cable layout to reduce predicted CAPEX costs during early design stages. The team considered various project uncertainties and optimized for both minimum CAPEX and minimum combined CAPEX and OPEX. This approach resulted in CAPEX savings, potential OPEX reductions through minimized electrical and unavailability losses, and valuable insights into cost trade-offs. The ability to rapidly evaluate multiple scenarios enabled Equinor to make informed decisions, de-risk critical design aspects, and allow their engineers to focus on other areas of the project.
