2024 has been a fantastic year for Kinewell. There has been so much good stuff happening we cant possibly recap it all but here are some of our highlights:
1.Growing team
Kinewell has experienced significant growth this year, increasing our headcount by 55% and establishing a new office in Newcastle city centre.
Thanks to the NECA funded TIGGOR programme delivered by ORE Catapult we’ve been able to bring on board some brilliant minds who are helping us push the boundaries of our optimisation software and services. It’s been an exciting year for growth and innovation and we’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline for 2025.

2.Industry recognition
We’re incredibly proud to have been recognised for our outstanding work this year in industry awards.
At the Global Offshore Wind awards we were shortlisted for the Equity and Inclusivity Award and our leadership team were nominated in the Future Leader category. Although we weren’t the winners on the night it was an honour to be recognised in this dynamic industry.
At the North East IT and Tech Awards the Dynamites, we were nominated for the Remarkable Innovation award and were the very proud winners of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Award.
These nominations and win are a testament to the hard work, creativity, and dedication of every single person at Kinewell. They reflect our passion for pushing boundaries in the offshore wind and tech industries and our continued drive to make a meaningful impact. We’re excited to continue growing, learning, and making a difference in our industry.

It’s been a remarkable year of knowledge-sharing and thought leadership for Kinewell!
We’ve been honoured to be invited to speak at various industry conferences to share our insights on innovation, optimisation, using AI, advancing floating wind, hydrogen storage requirements and how the North East England is a powerful offshore wind hub.
From technical deep-dives to panel discussions, our experts have been at the forefront of industry conversations. We’ve been proud to represent the renewable energy sector, sharing insights that go far beyond our own company – bringing critical discussions about offshore wind technology to wider public attention through national media and on an international stage at the COP29 UK Pavillion.
We’ve been delighted to make meaningful contributions to these global conversations about the future of renewable energy. These opportunities not only allow us to share our expertise but also help us amplify the important work happening in our industry.

5.Inspiring the next generation
At Kinewell, we’re passionate about nurturing young talent and bridging the skills gap in the renewable energy sector. In 2024, we launched EduKLOC, a groundbreaking free educational game, sponsored by RS Group that’s transforming how students explore offshore wind technology.
The free tool, based on our commercial KLOC software is a gateway to real-world engineering challenges. By allowing students to design offshore wind farm cable layouts, the game brings complex mathematical concepts to life. Students step into the shoes of professional engineers, solving authentic industry problems while developing critical skills in mathematics, physics, and economics. We reached over 3000 students through dynamic workshops and showcases at events like Global Offshore Wind, Offshore Wind North East, STEMFest and DoB Academy’s Summer School. By creating EduKLOC, we’re not just teaching – we’re inspiring the next generation of renewable energy professionals, showing them the exciting possibilities at the intersection of technology, sustainability, and innovation.
