ScottishPower Renewables – Optimising Weather Risk Management Across Wikinger and East Anglia ONE
Project Information
Company Name: ScottishPower Renewables (in partnership with the Met Office)
Project Type: Construction & O&M Planning
Products Used: ForeCoast Marine
Background
ScottishPower Renewables needed a way to manage weather risk and plan installation strategies more effectively across two major offshore wind projects, Wikinger and East Anglia ONE.
The Challenge
Offshore operations are highly weather-dependent, and missed weather windows cause major schedule and cost impacts. ScottishPower Renewables needed reliable, transparent insight into how weather risk would affect installation and O&M strategies across all phases of these developments, in order to support confident decision making at each stage.
Solution
In partnership with ScottishPower Renewables and the Met Office, ForeCoast Marine was applied to the Wikinger and East Anglia ONE offshore wind farms to optimise weather risk management and installation strategies. As one of the most advanced metocean risk management tools available, ForeCoast Marine enabled project teams to model, forecast, and mitigate weather downtime across all phases of offshore operations, reducing costs, improving efficiency, and enhancing safety. The tool was also used to assess the impacts of different installation and O&M strategies on project timelines and financial performance.
Conclusion
Dr Mark Lawless, Director, said:
“The combination of ForeCoast Marine’s functionality and holistic metocean risk management capabilities means that it is unmatched in the current market. Application of the tool to the Wikinger and East Anglia projects will provide powerful insight to support decision making at each stage of these developments, allowing significant cost, efficiency and H&S benefits to be realised.”
