Kinewell Energy proudly participated in Renewables UK’s Future Energy Wales conference at the ICC in Newport, contributing to critical discussions about Wales’ renewable energy landscape. Our CEO, Dr. Andrew Jenkins, was invited to speak on the pivotal session “Seizing success in floating wind supply chains” alongside other industry experts in the area.

Conference Highlights

The two-day event brought together industry leaders, manufacturers, innovators, and policymakers to address Wales’ ambitious renewable energy goals. With the nation needing to quadruple its wind power capacity over the next decade, the conference provided a crucial platform for strategic dialogue and partnership.

The Strategic Importance of Floating Wind

Floating wind technology represents a transformative opportunity for Wales and the broader renewable energy sector. Unlike traditional fixed-bottom offshore wind farms, floating wind turbines can be deployed in deeper waters, dramatically expanding the potential for marine energy generation. For Wales, with its extensive coastline and strategic maritime position, floating wind offers unprecedented potential to become a global leader in renewable energy innovation, create high-value jobs, and contribute significantly to the UK’s decarbonisation efforts.

Andrew’s Insights

During the session, Andrew shared valuable perspectives on navigating the emerging floating wind market. He discussed how innovative digital technologies such as Kinewell’s KLOC software, which optimises inter-array cable layouts, has already been put to the test on floating wind projects by industry leaders like Equinor to de-risk key development decisions for their floating wind portfolio.

The session initiated discussions around the need for innovation to fully take advantage of the potential of floating offshore wind, and we look forward to continuing those discussions further.
